Sepsis Compensation Claims
If your health has been harmed or a loved one has died due to negligent treatment of sepsis, we have the specialist expertise required to help you claim fair compensation.
Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that can be triggered by almost any infection, including COVID-19. It has to be identified and treated quickly to avoid the risk of serious harm. Failure to provide the right treatment for sepsis promptly can result in tissue damage, organ failure and even death in the most serious cases.
If you have suffered harm to your health or the tragic death of a loved one due to negligent treatment of sepsis, it can be very difficult to live with the thought that this could have been avoided. While claiming compensation cannot change what has happened, it can help you and your loved ones to live with the impact.

Time limits for sepsis claims
If you are making a claim on your own behalf, you will normally have three years to claim sepsis compensation.
This time limit starts from the date when you first become aware that you had sepsis, that the way this was treated may have been negligent and that this has resulted in harm to your health. This point is known as the ‘date of knowledge’.
In some cases, a longer time limit may apply, giving you more time to claim.
If the claim relates to a child, you will normally have until their 21st birthday to make a sepsis compensation claim.
If the claim relates to someone who died due to negligent treatment of sepsis, any dependant who wishes to make a claim will normally have three years from the date of death to do so.
Claiming compensation for someone who died due to sepsis
If a loved one has sadly died due to negligent treatment of sepsis, no amount of compensation can ever truly make things right. What it can potentially do, however, is to help lessen the financial burden on you and your family at this difficult time.
Any dependants of the person who has died can potentially claim compensation for loss of earnings, loss of services that the deceased provided and a statutory bereavement award (currently set at £15,120).
