Widow Wins £100,000 for NHS Failings

The widow of a man who died following substandard NHS treatment has succeeded in her claim for compensation.

Ian Jardine, 58, first went to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn after experiencing severe pain in his chest and shortness of breath. However, doctors attributed his symptoms to musculoskeletal causes rather than any potentially life-threatening illness.

Three days later, Mr Jardine was still experiencing chest pains and went to see his GP. When the pain grew worse rather than diminishing, he made a further visit to the GP’s surgery and, on his return home, an ambulance was called. The paramedics gave him the option of returning to hospital, but he decided against it.

Mr Jardine died later that evening from a coronary thrombosis.

The NHS Trusts involved admitted that had Mr Jardine received the correct medical treatment, he would have survived. They accepted liability for the misdiagnosis and apologised for the mistakes that had been made.

Mr Jardine’s widow was awarded £100,000 in compensation.
