£9,000 for Man Who Developed Pressure Sores in Hospital

Compensation has been secured for an elderly man who developed pressure sores while he was in hospital.

Ten days after he was admitted to hospital, it was observed that his skin on his lower back was reddened. This was recorded as a pressure ulcer. When an assessment took place after a further ten days, he had multiple wounds on his buttocks and heel. He eventually recovered from the ulcerations, despite periods of relapse.

His family sought legal advice and a claim was commenced against the hospital trust responsible for his care. The hospital trust conducted an investigation and accepted that, despite an assessment of the risk of the man developing ulceration having been carried out, there had been a failure to appropriately monitor his skin condition and this had led to the development of the ulcers, which had not initially been detected.

A settlement of £9,000 was agreed.
